On the very same day, two people lost their lives in two separate auto collisions on the Oregon Coast. On July 17, a Newport man was attempting to cross Highway 101 to make a turn into the southbound lane when he was struck by an oncoming car. Unfortunately, this gentleman died during transport to the hospital. Police are still investigating, and anybody with information is as to contact the Newport Police Department at 541-574-5455.
At 3:00 PM on the same day, Oregon State Police troopers and Tillamook County Sheriff's deputies responded to a four car crash on Highway s 26 in Tillamook County. In that case, a motorist driving eastbound on Highway 26 drove through a road construction area, and crossed the centerline. Westbound vehicles were stopped for the road construction, and the eastbound motorist struck another motorist to a standing outside of her stopped car. She also was pronounced dead while en route to the hospital. The Oregon State Police continue to investigate this collision as well.
It is well documented that Highway 26 is the most dangerous road in Oregon. In the summer, there are many motorists traveling to and from the Coast, and some attempt to make a pass that they should not. In the winter time, many folks travel up to Mount Hood an icy and snowy conditions, again creating perfect conditions for collisions.
